WRC Grandstand 1905

Wellington Racing Club, Grandstand, Thentham, 1905
Alan Bulleyment Collection
Architects: Crichton and McKay.

The grandstand was the largest of the three Trentham stands. This preliminary sketch design is not dated but is probably late 1904. There was also an amended sketch design, dated January 1905, that shortened the stand from the nine bays shown here to seven and deleted one internal floor. By the time the contract drawings were prepared the central structure on the top deck had also been deleted.

The contract was let on the 15th April 1905 and construction was completed in time for the first race meeting in January 1906.
